Snow Day
“Snow Day” - 1/24/26

These are things most of us never imagined
Our hearts and minds would see in nearly real time
Reminding us how fragile life is how agile hate is
How love is not all you need necessarily when
Systems fail violence flails ugly brutal bristling
Shocking no more predictably insecure

It never seems to end the shootings the snatching
The temptation to give up give into darkness 24/7
It’s all we seem to see we can’t look away nor should we
Too many victims to count now in our own country
Women, children, men - innocents unearthed from
Beneath icey resentment lament lament lament

Then foment some more it’s the only way to ever
Be sure you know your rights be sure you’re prepared
Be sure of what’s impossible to predict by knowing
No matter what your humanity’s intact it’s sick
What we’re seeing what happened to Renee Good
It’s sick when children see their mothers screaming their

Teachers taken for no reason their reasoning relegated
To the boneyard of denial is the most powerful form
Of poison rats are the first to be tested but murder
Won’t get you arrested every day infants are still born
Lovers are still married beauty abounds the sunset’s watercoloring
Newness over this beleaguered nation helpers arrive

On the scene filming truth risking capsizing on the
Choppiest waters rafts barely afloat emote emote emote
But think clearly love dearly don’t lose your cool
Cool is to empathize cruelty’s so 2025 let’s cancel
Everything until we can all agree each one of us is
Suffering because we are all one truth-scream fleeing the scene of

The crime is getting away with brutality even though
We all have eyes the ability to see right from wrong
With that most instructive of instincts the one that tells
Us blood red’s the color of the bitterest precinct
Who has the code what is the cure when will it cease
We can’t endure without coming together now

When is enough don’t disavow hope when it needs succor most
Summoning
“Summoning” - 1/16/2026

With the world so fragile
You must promise me you will be as gentle as possible
To yourself you must promise me
When you wake up you will close your eyes
You will kiss the silence press your lips
Against invisible panes of glass
Envision my hands on the other side
Of that silence and know we are in the world together

With the world so fragile
You must allow for the strength of the ages of those who
Came before to surround you with slow-motion
Drum-circle chants of how impossibility’s illusory
How singing can save the world how we’re birds of a feather
As the sky becomes dim and cloudy lest you forget
The sun’s indomitable courage I’ll ignite what’s dauntless
Using just the will of presence to pronounce

Our cells are miracles and
Miracles are invisible until
We share the insides with the animus of the
Outside it’s snowing but melting so quickly
Almost as if weather’s there just
To repair life’s sacredness
With the world so fragile you must
Promise me you will be as irrepressible as possible
Wintering
“Wintering” - 1/18/26

Big chunks of snow are falling from the branches
Heavy with the burden of multiple handshakes with the heavens
G-d is a woman she isn’t weeping anymore
She roars silently white leopardess-ness her growl a handless clock-face new moon her

Time is now, to fly and then fall all around
Until the rise - condensation-cry, cursive immersion
They don’t teach script anymore in school
It occured to me that less and less will

Scholars coming up be able to connect distances between expressiveness
Between thoughts and ideas and feelings
Between the numbing of violence and the aching that follows
Between the borderless nations of reason and expectation

I muse as I try not to slip on 48 hrs of freshly fallen snow
Slush just beginning to grow gardens of grey
Between the orange hazard signage on paved crosswalkways
So many things to look out for how to be prepared for inclemency in all directions beginning to feel

Like it’s always been this way
But let’s remember clearly that of course it hasn’t
Я тебя люблю are words I used to reserve for lovers
Or maybe the best of friends and family it kept them sacred

It kept the enormity of loyalty from being too expansive to carry
But now I say it freely to the sky and the trees always
But also to you who not too long ago I’d say
I barely knew but I know you well enough now to aver

Whatever the outcome of this, of us, Это любовь between
Your faraway fingertips and my mountaintop, your moon and my shore

Dessert

"Dessert" - 1/1/26

The cliché about women and chocolate is everything and true
I try not to eat sugar these days but I find other ways
Coconut-sweetened, date-indebted, pure cacao -
Whatever it takes damn I need it now...

I thought these years were behind me
I gave up on what used to define me, blind me
The romance of my yesteryears before cells went rogue
Before silence swept (wept) tears

Can you hear the phone trying hard to define me
Breathing heavily as I hold it too close I know better radiation’s bad for me
But so is going out in the snow without more than a sweater
I've told you things I didn't even remember such is the gravity

Of the "s" in surrender, soulful stranger; the hissing of the serpent
Exiting the building or is it entering am I Lilith, Eve, or Pandora
Pondering....
